Public spaces
While on the board of the New Business Development group at BBC News, we undertook a number of contacts with third parties. The goal was to spread the word about the BBC News website in new and interesting ways. Public space installations were a key part of this effort, usually consisting of Macromedia Director / Flash front ends, pulling in feeds at suitable intervals.

BBC Screens - BBC News. The screen is connected to the BBC's global broadcast network, delivering a 24 hour schedule, with relays of major broadcast events, news, sport, music, documentaries and much more. There are also interactive facilities enabling the audience to text their comments, send photo-images to the screen or play al fresco video games. There are Big Screens in Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Hull, Rotherham, Derby, Leeds, Swindon and Bradford. There is also a traveling screen used for big outdoor events such as music festivals. iPlus kiosk - BBC News. The kiosks, made by CitySpace, allow people to access information on what to do in the city they are stationed, to browse breaking news and latest job vacancies, to check travel updates and email and to send electronic postcards or videos to their friends around the world. The service is free and also allows people to use their own wi-fi enabled laptops within 300 metres of the facilities. Virgin Atlantic, in-flight entertainment - BBC News.
